How to detach from childhood items

So recently my mum has brought up the fact that I should donate some of my books from when I was younger. But I personally can't bring myself to do it, as i love each and every book I own. It got me thinking, how many other things have I unnecessarily and is it time for me to start to clear out my old stuff and separate the clutter from the important stuff.

So here I have some tips on how to sort out your old stuff and make sure it ends up in a better place than a box underneath your bed.

First of all when sorting through you books you will need to consider the following things; 1- Is this book in the right age group for me? and 2- Would I ever read this book again?. These are the most important questions you could ask yourself to know if you are ready to let go. So sort through all your books and make sure to dust the remaining before putting them back on their shelf.

Once you have collected all the books you are willing to give away, you can consider many options on where your books can go. Some suggestions are giving your books to younger siblings or cousins, another is to donate them to your local library or you could sell them online. It all depends on what you want to do, just don't put them in a box under your bed because that wouldn't really serve any purpose.

As for your childhood toys it can be a different story, especially if you are like me and have a whole toy chest full of plush toys. There is a quite simple way to sort through your old toys and work out what can be kept and what should go.

First of all if you still sleep with one of your childhood toys don't worry no judgement whatsoever. It is completely normal to still hold on to your childhood favourites and they can serve a great purpose of extra decor on your bed so its not to worry if you want to hold onto that toy that you've as long as you could talk (I do).

The best way to sort through your old toys if you are not ready to let go of them is to work out which toys are your top 3 (at the most 4) and set them aside in your room on a shelf. Now if you are ready to get rid of the rest you will need to sort out which ones could be donated and which ones have seen better days. the ones that are still in pretty good condition (and haven't been chewed on) can be given to your younger siblings/cousins and the rest (if there are any) can be given to charity. Then you can sort out your own plan for your old worn out toys whether they go directly in the bin or you repair and donate them is up to you.

Now as for your old clothes, baby clothes may not work for this but other clothes could. For all those old shirts you cant bear to get rid of because "they're just too cute" even though you know you don't fit in can turn into a great craft project. One of the things I love doing with old shirts is to turn them into cushions. plus if you don't know how there are plenty of tutorials online of how to do it, even ones without sewing.

Hope you enjoyed all my tips. Have you had trouble getting rid of old belongings? did you find this helpful? let me know in the comments
